When it comes to beating the heat, one common piece of advice is to drink plenty of fluids. But not all beverages are created equally when it comes to cooling you off on an especially hot day.

The drinks on this list have been proven to help bring the temperature down a bit.

More than just water

Sure, it’s always helpful to grab a big glass of good old H2O if you’re feeling hot and parched. But there’s no reason you can’t also grab a more flavorful drink when you’re trying to achieve the same goal.

Some of the drinks on this list might be unfamiliar to you, but there might be one that will become your next go-to midsummer beverage:

  • Fresco de Ensalada Salvedorena: Let’s start with one that’s not entirely a drink. This refreshing treat is big in El Salvador, but it’s quickly spreading around the world … including spots across the U.S. It’s sort of a fruit punch, but some of the fruit is still in edible, delicious chunks for you to enjoy as you sip.
  • Egyptian Mint Lemonade: Let’s face it, there’s not much better than a crisp glass of sweet and sour lemonade to quench your summer thirst. But if you want a bit more, try this Middle Eastern creation chock full of limes, milk, and mint — with some sugar mixed in to enhance the deliciousness.
  • Mint Tea: This one sounds counterintuitive, but give it a chance. Folks around the world have been drinking hot tea throughout the summer for generations, and mint tea (the national drink of Morocco) might just be the tastiest and most refreshing of the bunch.

There are plenty of other great options out there, but each of these offers a unique way to have a healthy and hydrated summer.
