Costco Is Often Described As A Great Place To Work — Here’s Why

If you’re a Costco member, you’re probably drawn to the great deals and wide selection. But those folks who are stocking the shelves and ringing up your orders have their own reasons for being a fan.

Many Costco employees remain at the company for years, if not decades, due in large part to a wide array of perks. While each worker is different and no employer is right for everyone, there are a few reasons that are commonly cited as the reasons so many Costco employees are satisfied with their jobs.

Benefits

At many companies, even if insurance and other benefits are offered, they’re limited to full-time workers. That’s not the case at Costco, where even part-time staff members have access to all the benefits of their full-time colleagues.

This makes the company particularly attractive to college students and retirees who are looking for a job but don’t want to commit to 40 hours per week.

Scheduling

With guaranteed minimum hours, flexibility, and schedules posted at least two weeks in advance, Costco part-timers say they’re able to achieve a healthier work-life balance. The company also provides paid time off for, among other things, illness, vacation, and holidays.

Bonuses

Twice a year, hourly Costco employees receive what the company calls “extra checks.” Those who clock at least 1,000 hours in a year are eligible for the full bonus, and even those who work less can claim a percentage of this perk. Other benefits are nice, but nothing compares to hard, cold cash.
