But that’s not stopping organizer Billy McFarland (who was convicted for his actions in the earlier festival) from planning a sequel.
Revisiting the fiasco
If you don’t remember all the sordid details and haven’t watched any of the documentaries detailing the utter disaster that was the original Fyre Festival, let’s take a look at just how bad things got.
- In 2016, McFarland began teasing an epic concert series in the Bahamas with ticket packages topping $12,000.
- He teamed up with rapper Ja Rule and enlisted lots of celebrities to tout the upcoming festival.
- When attendees arrived, they found disaster relief tents and cheese sandwiches instead of luxury digs and gourmet meals.
- Even worse, the big-name musical acts that had been scheduled to appear were nowhere in sight.
McFarland later pleaded guilty to multiple charges and received a $26 million fine as well as a six-year prison sentence. He was released last year after serving about four years behind bars.
He’s doing it again?
Although there’s nothing official enough yet to confirm that “Fyre Festival II” is legit, McFarland has been hyping it on social media this week.
He published a link to a ticket pre-sale platform and claimed the first round was already sold out.
As for the event itself, McFarland said he put together a foolproof plan while in prison. It’s supposed to be happening at some vague location in the Caribbean by the end of next year and tickets are available for as much as $7,999.
It appears some folks are willing to give him another chance, but everyone else is anticipating the next scathing Netflix documentary.
