Starting on August 18th and lasting until August 21st the Pokemon World Championships are taking over London, England like the English Premier League wishes it could (I said it).
The tournament will include competitions for the Pokemon Trading Card Game, the Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield video games, Poke GOM, Pokemon UNITE, and Pokken Tournament DX.
Like every other major event in the modern era, streams will be available throughout the duration of the tournament, and spectators will be allowed in the venue.
Esports has taken off in the past decade; while a Pokemon tournament has similar elements -- it is slightly different. It will be interesting to see how much interest tournaments like this gain over the next few years as the world gets further from the pandemic (hopefully).
With various seasons around the world for Pokemon tournaments, it's definitely a possibility that the Pokemon World Championships becomes an even bigger spectacle in the future.
