Get those stretches in chirpers, and welcome to the morning. Did you know 'Poor Little Fool' by Ricky Nelson was the first-ever Billboard Hot 100 single? Of course, you didn't! No, you put your hand down...you didn't know that. Well...if you did somehow actually know this fact, have a little hibiscus tea on me. -Walter Yeates World
The BreakdownA quick look around the world.Georges NijsA newly discovered lake may help save the ice sheet: Scientists going to work in East Antarctica have recently discovered a huge lake that may contain a history of the ice sheet in Antarctica since its early beginnings. Lake Snow Eagle is covered by 2 miles of ice and is in the highlands of Antarctica's Princess Elizabeth Land. It could hold a history of over 34 million years. Pretty neat, right? Isn't that a little 3-2?: The Eastern Conference Semifinals saw the Miami Heat go up 3-2 over the Philadelphia 76ers in the best of 7 series. The 120-85 victory puts Erik Spoelstra's club in the driver's seat. The Western Conference Semifinals saw the Phoenix Suns defeat the Dallas Mavericks 110-80 in a dominating performance. The Suns went to the NBA Finals last season and are looking to complete the job they fell short at last season. Celebrity chef found not guilty: Chef Mario Batali was found not guilty of indecent assault and battery after Natali Tene sued him for allegedly groping her at a bar. The judge in the case claimed Batali's conduct was "not befitting of a public person of his stature" but also claimed Tene has "significant credibility issues" and was out for financial gain. My question is if his conduct wasn't befitting, then he clearly did something, right? The 61-year-old Batali has been accused by multiple women of unwanted propositions and groping since 2017. Tesla Faces Large Recall, Complicating Elon's PlansTelsa's large recall gives Elon Musk a major headache as he attempts a ridiculous Twitter takeover.TeslaTesla recalled 129,960 vehicles this month (to be precise) to fix infotainment systems that may overheat before and during fast charging. Sound concerning? Yes, you should be concerned any time systems begin overheating; it's almost always a bad sign. However, Tesla is attempting to fix the issue with an over-the-air software update, which will hopefully fix the issue and refresh the software like a smartphone update. This marks the 7th recall of the year of the 2022 Model 3 and the 6th from the 2022 Model Y. The newest recall includes the Model Ss and Modle Xs from 2021 and 2022; each is running a specific version of Tesla's operating system. A computer chip in all recalled vehicles may overheat causing drivers to lose accessibility to navigation, music, heat, air conditioning, adjusting windshield wiper speed, and viewing the back-up camera. Tesla's continuous recalls come while Elon Musk (he's a big deal at Tesla) is attempting to gain tens of billions of financing in order to take over Twitter, in what could be one of the worst business acquisitions of all time if it goes through. Hopefully, the recall fixes the issue, and there aren't any further recalls this year. Share this story:us politics
Anti-abortion Senator Supports Codifying Roe v WadeSenator Bob Casey (D-PA) supports the Women's Health Protection Act, despite touting himself as an anti-abortion candidate.United States CongressWhile Congress has finally entered a culture discussion that has never ceased being a hot-button issue on social media, many elected officials are beginning to understand what is at stake. Senate Democrats are attempting to pass a bill entitled the 'Women's Health Protection Act,' which is oddly named considering more than just women in 2022 can have an abortion, but that's a discussion for another time and how politicians are often behind the times. However, during this current wave of debate in Congress, Senator Bob Case (D-PA) who pridefully claims to be 'pro-life' is deciding that he enjoys his political career and will support the bill. Casey's vote brings Democrats one vote closer to being able to codify abortion rights into law. However, the vote looks to depend on the whimsical Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has yet to make up his mind on whether or not he will support the 'Women's Health Protection Act.' Manchin has become a villain in his party, but that hasn't seemingly swayed him to support nationally popular policies. It's difficult to not laugh slightly at Casey's turn as it all came about due to the Supreme Court leaked document stating they will vote to overturn Roe v Wade. Casey was using the 'pro-life' stance to convince some conservative voters to throw him their support. Politicians never cease to amaze. Share this story:video games
EA Dumps FIFA, FIFA Moves On QuickEA decides to break up with FIFA, leading to FIFA announcing it wants to see multiple new people at once.EA/FIFAElectronic Arts (EA) announced it was ending its relationship with the controversial world association football (soccer to the uncultured) organization FIFA after 29 years. EA Sports will launch its new title named EA Sports FC (FC is for Football Club, again for the uncultured) on July 23, 2023. The announcement comes less than a year after EA Sports top executive, Cam Weber stated the company was thinking about dumping its exclusive license with FIFA. It was on that day EA filed trademarks for 'EA Sports FC.' Hmm...sounds like EA was planning this breakup for quite some time and aren't going to give the "It's not you, it's me" excuse. According to EA's press release, the company believes the FIFA license was more of an expense than an attribute to the popular titles. Hopefully, EA gets rid of the Ultimate Team scam, but that's unlikely to happen right EA? FIFA 23 will be the last FIFA game under the EA brand. FIFA realizing it needed a good PR spin (FIFA has spin practice with deflecting concerns of human rights advocates and the Qatar World Cup) announced 'a number' of new non-simulation games are already under production for release this fall. FIFA's move to non-exclusive license holders will be interesting. The gaming community will let EA and FIFA know which one was the true market draw soon enough. Share this story: |
