High fashion design house Balenciaga has a reputation for some odd and insanely expensive products, but this one might take the cake.

The latest offering, accurately dubbed the Trash Pouch, is modeled after a lowly garbage bag. It’s got an unbelievable markup over an ordinary Hefty sack, though, going for an estimated $1,790 each.

Of course, this bag is made of the finest leather and features an understated logo identifying it as an authentic Balenciaga design. Anyone with enough money to shell out this much to carry a trash bag around town can expect to find this product in an array of colors wherever high-priced bags are found.

“Who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?”

Designer Demna Gvasalia explained his motivation this way: “I couldn’t miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?”

He seemed to have gotten his wish as a scandal of sorts played out on social media when the bag made its debut in Paris earlier this year. A number of critics compared the design to a scene in the 2001 film “Zoolander” in which the protagonist displayed a new fashion line dedicated to homelessness.

In May, Balenciaga made headlines for selling a pair of absolutely decimated high-top sneakers for the eye-popping price of nearly $1,900.
