đŸ€ Going Beyond the Impossible

How sustainable are alternative meat products? Do they help the environment as much as we believe?

Do we have beef, chirpers? Yes, today (it's Tuesday), we will talk a bit about alternative meat products in our feature story and if they are truly sustainable.

However, let's first talk about the taste. They all go well with herbal tea, and I happen to be a fan of vegan burgers while also enjoying meat. Do they taste the same? Not at all, but that's what makes it interesting.

If you haven't tried an alternative meat product, don't be scared or afraid you're betraying some lifestyle. Everything will be okay.

On that note, let's get to the news.

The Breakdown

A quick look around the world.

👏 Brendan Fraser sheds tears. Brendan Fraser has been out of the spotlight for quite some time; he received a six-minute standing ovation for the world premiere of The Whale, where he plays the lead character, Charlie. His comeback story is incredible, so enjoy this moment Mr. Fraser, you deserve it.

✍ Jason Peters signs with Dallas Cowboys. Jason Peters who spent the bulk of his hall of fame career with rival Philadelphia Eagles has come to terms with the Dallas Cowboys. He will be the team's left tackle after Tyron Smith (another future hall of famer) went down with a serious injury during training camp. There's nothing else to say except, How 'Bout Dem Cowboys?!

👛 Sleeping sustainable beauty. Disneyland Paris will be offering a new limited edition collection of upcycled bags made from the Sleeping Beauty Castle-themed tarp that covered the structure during its refurbishment. That's one way to help the environment; way to go Sleeping Beauty.

đŸ‘¶ Nirvana lawsuit dismissed again. A lawsuit from a man who appeared naked as a baby on the band's Nevermind album has been dismissed again. Spencer Elden is appealing the dismissal, claiming the image is a piece of child sexual abuse material. Kind of insulting to actual victims, isn't it, Spencer?

How Sustainable Are Alternative Meats

It looks like alternative meats may be on to something.

How sustainable is alternative meat?

What some call 'fake' meat isn't exactly the full story of what Plant-based or alternative meats are. While the production of meat does have harmful environmental effects (still far from the greenhouse emissions from the most polluting corporations in the world); however, companies like Beyond and Impossible are searching for a solution.

The Impossible burger causes only 11% of the greenhouse gas emissions that would come from an equivalent amount of beef burger, according to a study from consulting firm Quantis.

Plant-based meats also used 23% less than beef, 11% of pork, and 23% of chicken for the same level of protein.

So all is good? Depends.

The greenness of plant-based meats depends on the farming practices which underline them, which is also true for meat itself.

Plant-based meats use palm oil grown in plantations that used to be rainforests, or heavily irrigated crops grown in arid regions that cause far more damage than sustainably raised crops.

Unfortunately, this means that more sustainable practices will likely cost consumers more (because...of course). Overall, it does seem alternative meats are a greener option compared to animal meats.

Apple AirTag a gift to stalkers?

Apple AirTag seems to come with some unintended consequences.

Girls via Giphy

"I didn’t know what it was or what it meant. I felt quite panicky," a woman said describing her experience in March with Apple AirTag when speaking to the Guardian. " I pulled over and still didn’t know what I was looking at. My phone was showing a map of where I was with a trail of red dots indicating the route I’d just followed. I think I was in shock. I drove straight to a friend’s house and we searched the car," she continued.

What now? This seems a bit tense. Well, it gets a bit more disturbing, "Eventually we found it under the carpet in the back – a tiny gadget the size of a 10-pence piece. I didn’t want it anywhere near me."

The woman believes it was obvious how it got there; she recently split with her partner, and the day before, he spent the day with their son. During that day, he moved the child seat from his car to the back seat of the woman's car when he dropped him off.

Wow.

What is the AirTag actually for?

The AirTag is a wireless Bluetooth device designed to keep track of items such as keys, purses, cars, or anything else that could be stolen -- it was not designed for stalking exes.

A man named Christopher Paul Trotman pleaded guilty to stalking his ex-girlfriend by gluing an AirTag under her car bumper.

Seriously, bro?

Actor Hannah Rose also reported in May that an AirTag was planted on her during an after-hours event at Disneyland, California.

How has Apple responded? By stressing it takes stalking seriously, and there is an alert system in place for suspicious activities...

One catch, though.

The alert system only works on the iPhone, so the company had to release the 'Tracker Detect' app that will alert an Android device (if the Android user even knows the app exists).

AirTag! Not it.

Hydro powered CHOO CHOO launches in Germany

These trains run on only hot air and condensed water, yummy and sustainable.

Alstrom

Alstrom's Coradia iLint trains make up the world's first fully hydrogen-powered passenger train service. Currently, the trains are running on the line in Lower Saxony, Germany. The only emissions are steam and condensed water, allowing the train to operate with a low level of noise.

A win for the environment

Five of the trains began running at the end of August five trains began running, and another nine will be added in the coming months to replace 15 diesel trains on the regional route.

Alstom says the Coradia iLint has a range of 1,000 kilometers (approximately 621 miles), meaning it can run all day on the line using a single tank of hydrogen. A hydrogen filling station has been set up on the route between Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervorde, and Buxtehude.

If these are the trains of the future, it's a bright sign for the environment, environmental activists, and all of us humans living on earth.

All of you are humans, right?
