Gas Prices are Bad, Diesel Prices are Terrifying

While gas prices are bad, diesel prices are even worse; read about how diesel prices may be the most significant source of the problem.

Gas prices have given many Americans sticker shock, but the diesel market has not been this bad since the 1970s. The average price of diesel recently hit 5.56 dollars per gallon. That is a 76.5% increase from one year previous.

It is essential to understand that while the average American may not need diesel, diesel runs many vital parts of the American economy. Tractor-trailers, industrial machinery, farming equipment, and much more depend on diesel as their primary fuel source.

When the diesel price is so high, production and transport costs are higher than everything else. This is a massive part of what leads to inflation being seen across the United States.

Diesel inventories have dropped 43% from 2020 and are at their lowest stock levels in over a decade. Analysts say the situation is getting so dire that diesel rationing could start happening soon.

It is crazy to think that part of what makes gas prices so high is that the big rig delivering it to local gas stations depends on diesel to get there.

Search for Escaped Murderer Continues, Reward Grows

Information about escaped Texas convict Gonzalo Lopez and the growing reward for information leading to his arrest.

The reward continues to grow for an escaped Texas inmate serving a life sentence for murder. 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez was on a transport bus when he broke free of his shackles and overpowered the bus driver, causing the bus to crash, allowing Lopez to escape.

Lopez was on the bus traveling from Gatesville to Huntsville for a medical appointment. He escaped in Leon county Thursday of this past week.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Robert Hurst spoke with reporters and had several notable quotes:
Lopez "was somehow able to get out of his shackles and get into the driver's compartment of the bus."
"He used some type of device, we don't know what some type of device, to cut out the bottom of the door."
Lopez "was able to overpower the driver. There was a struggle...the bus went off the roadway."

The driver suffered several non-life-threatening injuries during the struggle. Officers fired shots at Lopez as he escaped and ran across a cow pasture. Other prisoners were aboard, but no others escaped and remained in custody.

Lopez is considered dangerous and local schools in Leon County were closed Friday as the search continued. Initially, any information leading to Lopez's arrest would get a reward of $15,000, which has been increased to $22,500.

Two NBA Game 7’s Sunday

Two big NBA playoff game 7's will be played on Sunday with Conference Final berths at stake.

Sunday will be a dream day for NBA basketball fans as two-game sevens are to be played. The Celtics at Bucks play on ABC at 3:30pm EST, and the Mavericks at Suns play on TNT at 8pm EST.

The Mavericks and Suns series has gone chalk as both teams have defended home court in every game so far. With the Suns being the #1 western conference seed, they will have home court for the pivotal game seven.

Luka Doncic is a superstar by himself on the Mavericks, and the Suns have a solid big 3 with Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton. The sum of their parts should be greater than the solo power of Doncic. Expect the Suns to advance where the Golden State Warriors await them in the Western Conference Finals.

Game six in the Bucks and Celtics series was legendary, with both Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo going off for over 40 points. Game 7, hosted in Boston by the Celtics, could be another star showdown.

Yet similar to the Suns the Celtics have more firepower than their opponent. The Bucks are still with Antetokounmpos co-star Khris Middleton who is still battling a knee injury. My bet is on the Celtics winning to get the chance to face the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Crypto Going Crazy

The cryptocurrency market is very volatile and trending in the wrong direction.

Cryptocurrencies are still trending in the wrong direction, coming in the wake of the collapse of TerraUSD. Not only that, Bitcoin has gone through its most volatile week in over two years.

The collapse of algorithmic stable coin TerraUSD and its sister token Luna erased $270 billion from the Trillion-dollar value in the Crypto sector.

Bitcoin has been bouncing up and down all week, leading to many sell-offs resulting in Bitcoin having about a -2.5% drop from Friday to Saturday. However, Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency to have a rough week. In fact, most notable cryptocurrencies did as well.

Coins like Shiba Inu and Cardano saw drops from Friday to Saturday by around 7%. The market's short-term outlook is not great at the moment, and drops are expected to continue.

Any crypto investment would have to be a long-term play as analysts are still confident in the market. Still, the current negative trends have probably yet to bottom out. One thought, though, would say to keep monitoring it, and the opportunity is there right now to buy cheap with the potential for long-term gains.
